Day 5 spent at Escalante

Escalante is between Capitol Reef and Bryce Canyon, so we had to make a stop here for a day on our way to Bryce Canyon. We drove into the town of Escalante the evening after we were done exploring Capitol Reef.

Breakfast in Escalante

To start off our day at Escalante, we stopped at Kiva Koffeehouse. This was a cute little cafe that blended in with the landscape. Great coffee and had some good gluten free treats we tried!

Lower Calf Creek Falls Trail

We traveled along and made it to the trailhead for the Lower Calf Creek Falls trail in Escalante. There is quite a bit of parking at this trailhead, but it got crowded quickly. There is a $5 per car fee. Make sure to have some exact cash handy for this as there isn’t an attendant taking money for the fees. You will fill out a card, put the $5 in an envelope and place it in a lock box.

The Lower Calf Creek Falls trail is 6 miles round trip. The trail is a rather easy trail, however it is a sand trail which can make it difficult walking at times. You may want to wear some sandals or shoes you don’t care getting sand in.

The Falls

The falls were beautiful at the end. You can swim in the falls, but when we were there it was extremely cold. That did not stop us and others from taking a dip though. This is a great trail for a day hike. We hiked to the falls, spent some time swimming and eating lunch, then hiked back out ending our day at Escalante.
