Get to Know Me Better

Today’s post is all about getting to know me better and random little facts about me.

Are you named after anyone?

According to my parents, they originally had a different name picked out for me. But while my dad was out of the hospital for a bit, he heard the name Jessie on the radio. When he returned, he told my mom he had found the perfect name for me. My middle name, Maraye, is a blend of my grandmothers’ names, Margie and Faye.

What is your favorite pastime?

Without a doubt, my favorite pastime is watching sports. Having grown up playing them, I’ve always loved everything about the game. Most weekends and weeknights, you’ll likely find me tuned into a football, basketball, softball, or baseball game.

What is your Starbucks order?

Over the years, I’ve tried plenty of different coffees, but my go-to now is a Grande Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew—you can’t go wrong with this order! No matter the season, I’m definitely an iced coffee person, whether it’s summer or winter.

Do you have any siblings?

Yes, I have one sister, Carlie, who is 15 months older than me. She’s a big part of the blog and even has her own corner where you can learn about her experience to becoming a doctor.

Do you have any family traditions?

One family tradition that immediately comes to mind is our annual Thanksgiving trip to Gatlinburg, TN, to stroll through the town and see the Christmas lights. We’ve been doing this for as long as I can remember. There’s a sleigh in the village that my mom insists we take a picture in, just like she did when we were younger. Every year, we return to that sleigh to snap the photo. We’ve joked about the day we walk into the village and find the sleigh is gone, but my mom might not find it as funny as we do!

Do you have any pets?

As of 2024, I’m officially a pet parent! I have a 1-year-old mini Goldendoodle named Bobo, who keeps life extra fun and adventurous.

Do you collect anything?

If I were to say I collect anything, it would definitely be sneakers—mainly Nike. I’m not exactly sure how many pairs I have right now, but it’s definitely a collection! I love unique, eye-catching sneakers and enjoy learning about the stories behind their creation. 

What is the one item on your bucket list that you would like to complete this year?

Learning how to snowboard or ski is something I’ve always wanted to try. Winter sports are completely new to me, and I have no experience with them, but I’m eager to learn. In fact, it’s something I put on my vision board for this year! I’d love to plan a trip somewhere for a few days and take lessons to finally get the hang of it.
